This month’s session takes participants through a multi-step process in intersectionality, a term that points out how our multiple identities have parts that either are oppressed, provide us with privilege, or find themselves on the spectrum.
What is code switching? Do you do it? If so, how often? In this IV DEIB session, we’ll demystify code switching, and examine how it impacts all of us personally and professionally.
This Studio will move you through a series of creative visualization, expressive writing, and journaling sentence stems to reduce stress and induce a sense of relaxation. We will also apply the Japanese technique of haiku and haibun.
In this Intersectional Voices in Print Studio (IV Print), we will explore the publishing process from all angles, including editing, promotion, and bringing more voices to the page.
This month, we aim to help members use poetry as a tool for upliftment in times of uncertainty and doubt. The goal is to show how poetry can be a bearer of light in dark times, while also inspiring members to harness that light through the creation of their own verses!
In this session, we will immerse ourselves in the world of artistic expression by learning about how artists use physical tools and digital platforms to give form to fears, hopes, and experiences. First, we will observe and discuss a few art pieces. Following this, participants will engage in a drawing activity of their own.
In this session, we’ll be using sounds to tune into ourselves and lean into different emotions that we may be experiencing or have experienced in the past. Participants will try out creative sound and audio techniques like audio journaling, song writing, and beat-making.
Join us this month to learn about the beloved Girls Write Now Anthology and how a book is made. Plus, hear from winners of the Writing for Life Essay Contest and more guest speakers from our community!
The world of work is shifting fast—driven by changes in how we write, give and receive mentorship, and where we find community. Girls Write Now is uniquely poised to meet these changes in this moment. At this month’s committee meeting, we’ll harness the diverse experiences and expertise of Tech Committee members, identifying the real tensions of leaders across sectors to best position Girls Write Now as a strategic solution with essential services to meet those needs.
