    Intersectional Voices in Print Editorial

    The Anthology Committee is getting ready to edit the stories from the GWN community. This is our favorite time of the year and you’ll learn how to edit stories using Chicago Style Manual, which is a great skill to hone! We’ll share the Foreword and Intro (last year it was written by Wicked’s co-writer Winnie Holzman!) and mentees and mentors will read their latest stories.

    Creating Through Uncertainty

    Our objective during this studio is to give an insight about how scriptwriting can be used to introduce theatre life. Following this, participants will engage in writing in a theatrical sense along with having a discussion about how theatre is used during times of difficulties.

    Fictional World Building: Creating a World Readers Won’t Want to Leave

    How Do Characters Interact in The Thing? In this lesson, participants will be asked to explore and define the ways in which characters interact with the fictional world and each other. The exploration will be fostered by asking participants to look at interactions that exist both in media and in the real world and seeing what elements could be helpful for the interactions of their characters.

    Expand & Release: Meditative Techniques for Compassionate Writing Practice

    In this interdisciplinary studio, attendees will explore and discuss compassion in relation to their loved ones and not so loved ones, meditation, and methods to deepen their writing practice. Attendees will participate in a meditation and complete writing activities designed to encourage mindfulness.

    In this session, we’ll hone our reporting skills by observing what works (and doesn’t work) in the viral celebrity interviews dominating your feed today. Whether you want to weave insightful interviews into your nonfiction work, or are simply curious about different journalism career pathways, this one is for you!

    In a world full of stress and uncertainty, this virtual studio is a space to slow down and reconnect. We’ll move through guided art and poetry prompts focused on emotional healing and self-expression. No experience need; just come as you are.

    It’s not history… it’s YOUR-story! This community studio is a space to explore striking, resonant memoir writing in which your personal narrative is fully present and authentic. Craft writing that can be used in personal statements, contest submissions, or self-journaling as you explore your unique truth. Yes, the SETTING is a character! Learn how to utilize your setting to convey your unique perspective in a memoir.

  • Poetic Restoration: Nurturing Wellness through Creative Writing

    What is wellness and what are the objects we use to engage in self-care? Together we will list our favorite wellness-related activities, identify which objects we utilize to practice self-care, and through a generative session, personify those objects to give them purpose and express our gratitude.
