At the Girls Write Now Spring Awards, we proudly honored Grace Bastidas, a veteran mentor and leader at Girls Write Now, and Editor-in-Chief of Parents. We celebrated Grace for her trailblazing work in media, and her unwavering commitment to Girls Write Now’s mission.
Grace also joined us for our “Storytelling for Change” initiative for National Voter Registration Day to share her story. Quite simply, Grace inspires our community!

Girls Write Now Mentee Alum Lands Dream Job
Julia Mercado worked as a summer associate at DDM’s Real Simple and gained valuable experience that set her up for her dream career. Julia also participated in our #DifferentPerspectives campaign, writing about learning to take your time and finding your own path.

My Simple Realization Essay Contest
Girls Write Now mentees submitted to the My Simple Realization essay contest, and a panel of Real Simple editors judged entries. They selected winners based on originality, creativity, technical writing skills, and relevance to the contest theme.
Chelsea Lin’s essay, Each Tremolo Reminds Me, won the Grand Prize and she went on to work directly with Real Simple’s editors to prepare the piece for publication.

We worked with Dotdash Meredith across departments as Mentors for the Day who helped young writers develop their college essays. Employees passed on their craft and wisdom, mentees shared their stories and got accepted into colleges—and worlds were bridged.

As part of “The Come Up” series, mentees were invited to join Investopedia and Project Come Up at the Dotdash Meredith auditorium in New York City. Attendees heard from big names in the finance industry, learned about money management, stock trading, and crypto, and asked questions about building wealth.
