This graphic design accompanies a poetic performance about sexual identity and traditional expectations of young women.
Humorous
The Brief But Passionate Life of Green Tea and Cherry
I originally planned to create snippets of various Valentine’s Day scenarios. I think I gravitated towards that idea because that day for me was pretty dull. On a random walk, I decided to make my animation more cartoony and less serious. I made my characters personified food instead of people. By the way, green tea is my favorite flavor of ice cream, and I hate cherry-flavored everything.
Sculpt-apocalypse
This stop-motion animation is about two members, Goob and Cy, from a rebel group called the Uglies who seek to overthrow the oppressive Aluminium Regime, who hate and deem clay impure and routinely have “cleansings” to get rid of any remnants of clay throughout the land of Scupltipica. After one of these cleansings, Goob and Cy find one sole survivor.
Revolutionizing My History
What would you do if you found ancient eyeglasses on your commute to work or school? What if those ancient eyeglasses showed you your history and how you became who you are? Through this project, I am revolutionizing my history from my ancestors, who were probably activists and storytellers; to my parents, who had to struggle growing up; now to me and how I formed my identity in school, family, and society. This project represents who I am and how I am taking my place in history, including yours.
Editing: My Mentor and Me
Have you ever thought about the hard work and long hours that go into making your favorite piece of writing as good as it is? Well, for my mentor and me, our editing process is unintentionally funny and full of dedication. I’ve created a podcast allowing listeners into the raw and animated world that surrounds our sessions.
Toilet Talks Podcast
Toilet Talks is a podcast inspired by the fact that my friends and I have a range of conversations in the bathroom at school. We always hang out in the bathroom because it is the one way we can all be together and just talk. In this podcast, my friends and I talk about what it’s like to go to high school in NYC. I think this podcast represents my best work in the program this year because it shows how I have explored different ways to produce my writing.

A Year in the Life
High school is a new chapter in every adolescent’s life, and it can be terrifying. Especially if you do not know anyone or if you are going through some mental issues. I was in the same predicament as some of you and looking back, it would’ve been nice to get some friendly advice from someone my age. My podcast can hopefully help high school students make the best of their four years or look back on them with a smile on their face.
In Good Sentences
It is currently 2020—57 years after Sylvia Plath’s death in 1963—and yet she is still one of the most widely discussed writers today. Plath is now stereotyped as the quintessence for the depressed teenage girl because she wrote poems about heartbreak and depression and died by suicide after hearing that her husband was unfaithful. But in reality, Plath was, and is, one of the few writers who was able to transform her dark emotions into beauty. And as one of the forefront writers of her conservative generation, she was also most definitely a feminist.
The Secret of Cooking
My mentor and I were in Grand Central Station when it hit me that I should share my culinary journey and the reasons I enjoy cooking. I shared my idea with Caroline and she loved it. We decided to start with a script, then use Anchor to record. After countless edits, my script was ready to be recorded. I thought the recording and editing would be easy, but it wasn’t. I had to record and edit multiple times before I got the content I wanted. When I checked the box “record podcast” on my agenda, I felt accomplished and ready to take on the world.
What to do!
My piece is about fitting in during high school. It was inspired by my observation of some people changing over time to be something they are not. Teenagers today are constantly risking everything and changing who they are just to fit in with a group they see as superior to the rest. This represents my best work in the program this year because I made a crucial topic humorous and entertaining. Yes, I made it funny, but it is still very much something that happens a lot and can sometimes lead teenagers into a lot of trouble.
