As we count down the last 15 days of our Holiday Appeal, we’re giving you 15 reasons — one per day — why we’ve been the premier writing organization for New York City’s underserved teen girls for 15 years.
With the close of the year just hours away, we have just under $6,000 to go to meet our goal of $100,000 for our Holiday Appeal. As we end the year, our parting gift to you is a message from one of our amazing mentee alumnae. Stephanie’s story illustrates how a gift to Girls Write Now is actually a vote for the future of creativity, writing, and New York City’s teen girls:
“I came to GWN from a high school with no essentially no arts program and no room for my creative work, thrilled by the idea of finally having a writing community. At age 16, I was a nervous wreck. Fortunately, my mentor wasn’t just there to help me become inspired during writing workshops. She spent many nights helping me edit my college essay, gave me advice about perfecting my applications, even accompanied me all the way to Sarah Lawrence college for my interview so I wouldn’t get nervous. Most importantly, she always made sure I believed in myself. Today, I’m a graduate from The New School where I studied journalism, and a published writer.” — Stephanie Nolasco, mentee alum
