Charesse James grew up as first-generation Caribbean-American in the suburbs of South Florida, where she spent the bulk of her childhood eavesdropping on adults arguing over politics. She attended University of Missouri to study journalism and cultural anthropology with the goal of guiding those discussions. Charesse is a segment producer at MSNBC, where she covers how race, culture and history intersect with state and federal policy.
