Tiara Soto is a teen activist who strives to implement her passions for a better world through her everyday life. She loves giving back to her community through volunteer work. Tiara aspires to start up an organization in the near future centering around mental health awareness with a focus on the arts. She also dreams of writing her own book to inspire others with her life story. Tiara was named Teen Honoree in 2021 by Step Up and was presented the Inspiration Award by Mandy Moore. She is also a 2021 New York State Senate Youth Leadership Award recipient.
Though I wasn’t able to write as much this year, I aimed to create work that captured who I am beyond the words. I am very passionate about social justice and activism. A huge part of doing this work also entails of caring for yourself as you care for the world. Sometimes I personally forget to show myself the same kindness which is communicated through my published pieced for the anthology. However, it is important to recognize the internal beauty you hold everyday no matter how you may feel!
My parents and I share a special relationship and find comfort in having insightful talks daily. This piece is crafted based on a reflection to their answers on one of my favorite questions!
The pandemic came with many dark days, but in the midst of it all there was also some light out there as symbolic of the sunset in this photo back in June, 2020.
There are many stigmas surrounding body image and beauty standards to the point where it has become underestimated. This poem is written through the lens of a girl who experiences it but finds strength to overcome it.
