You'll also have the chance to chat with an Olympian and Nike Athlete! Join us for an evening of movement, fun, and food.

On our last day of self-care celebration week, youth from across the city get to engage in a TikTok challenge with the Ladies of Hip Hop, partake in Trap Yoga, enjoy a mocktail bar, and more! This event will also feature a live DJ and food and drink. We’ll meet at Nike HQ to end our self-care celebration week!

Ghostwriters Anonymous: Sharing Profitable Secrets

Online | Open to all mentees, all mentors, program alum, woman-identifying and trans* and gender-expansive members of the public

Join us as two ghostwriters discuss how to launch a career in ghostwriting, the differences between ghostwriting fiction and nonfiction, ghostwriting for individuals versus agents, the complexities of writing for hire and creating IP (intellectual property) and more! Attendees will learn about the IP process from beginning to end—including pitching, plotting, and writing—from both the editorial and the writing perspective. Whether you’ve always wanted to write a Star Wars tie-in novel or you think you’ve got the next Big Idea and want to know how to become an IP editor, join in to discover the secrets to ghostwriting!

Writing Workplace Romances and Second Chances

Join us for an evening of forbidden love, and learn all about the craft writing Romance Fiction. Participants will respond to a series of writing prompts based on her recently released novel, After the Lights Go Down, that ask “what if?” What if you met your dream mate at work? What if your ex was hired at your same job? Donna will also discuss the process of her 2020 best seller Confessions in B-Flat being adapted for the screen with Amblin Partners and Executive Producer Octavia Spencer!

The Art of Songwriting: Shaping Moods with Lyrics & Song Structure

In this workshop, you’ll discover the underlying principles of song composition. Musician SassyBlack will break down popular song structures for us and we will look into what makes a catchy song. Participants will get a chance to write their own mood shifting lyrics and will gain an overview of the songwriting process.

Crafting Fanfiction: Extending The Life Of The Stories We Love

In this workshop, GWN Mentor and fan culture expert Elizabeth Minkel will give a brief primer on fanfiction before diving into a variety of craft exercises. With a focus on characterization, perspective, tone, and plot, participants will create their own fanfiction story.
