In this workshop, we will learn the basics of stand-up comedy writing, giving special attention to the ways stand-up can be a tool for activism and awareness around pertinent social issues. Participants will gain an understanding of thoughtful comedy writing, what not to do in stand-up, and how to intentionally engage audience members and will have the opportunity to write jokes either for themselves or for Teaching Artist and stand up comedian Annabel Young. In this workshop, inspired by the I Ching, an ancient text of Chinese wisdom and the world's oldest oracle, artist and educator Zhenzhen Qi takes us through a variety of cultural divination practices to collectively design new or alternative patterns for fortune-telling. As a group, using the software development environment Lens Studio, we will code these patterns into a Snapchat AR filter to develop our own fortune-telling software experience. No prior software design or development experience is needed!
