I have only done one interview during the application process, and that was for Syracuse University. I honestly did not prepare much for it, other than research the website and possibly prepare a few points I could talk about. I also looked over the articles that Syracuse had posted so decided to go off of that.
Syracuse takes Demonstrated Interest very seriously, which is one of the reasons why I had done the interview so early. Nowadays, more and more universities have backed out of the interview system rather focusing on video portfolios and things such as that.
My interviewer was an alumni of Syracuse who had become an admissions representative of some sort. We first started the interview of with some questions about myself; my school, my prospective majors, my grades, curriculum, etc. This took around 10 minutes. After this, my interviewer asked if I wanted to ask any questions, which I did about her background, the school environment, and more. We ended, with her encouraging me to visit the campus.
The interview is a little bit nerving at first for someone like me who gets anxious very easily, but I didn’t think it was too bad, as this interview specifically was more casual and virtual.
