“I thought my last year with Robin at Girls Write Now was going to be ruined by college applications and senioritis. Instead, this has been our best year. Meeting with her is the highlight of my week. We write and chat as she drinks coffee and I sip water. I honestly could not ask for anything better. She was one of the first people I called when I got into Columbia University, and we are closer than ever! There is no such thing as our ‘last year as a pair.’ Where did I get that idea from?” -Corrine Civil, a three year mentee on her mentor Robin Marantz Henig.
Our mentees are graduating. Some are finishing their first year in the program, others are moving on after four years of mentorship at Girls Write Now. 100% of them are headed to incredible opportunities.
While it will be hard to say goodbye to our seniors, we are so proud of all that they have accomplished while being in the Girls Write Now program. With pieces published in Huffington Post, AOL/Cambio, and Girls Write Now’s award-winning Anthology and innovative Art Book, as well as performances at Lincoln Center and the United Nations, we have all been thoroughly impressed with the breadth of work these young women have showcased.
We have no doubt that they will continue to grow as writers and women as they head off to college at Brandeis University, Dickinson College, University of New Haven, Hunter College, Columbia University, Kenyon College, Binghamton University, Northwestern University, Lehman College, Bryn Mawr College, Baruch College, Boston University, and so many more.
Congratulations to all our graduating mentees as they reach for the stars!
