Emcees
- SHANILLE MARTIN is a third year mentee in the Girls Write Now mentoring program. This is also her last year as a mentee in the program but she hopes to continue being a part of the GWN community in some way. She’ll be attending the State University of Purchase in the fall to be a part of their writing program while also taking pre-med courses in order to become a pediatrician. She loves science fiction and also corny romantic comedies. Her favorite author is John Green, though she has a weak spot for anything Shakespeare. Her dream is to one day own her own publishing company that focuses mainly on teenage authors, while also traveling to countries in need of pediatricians without borders. She hopes Girls Write Now will one day be able to reach girls all across the country, and help them grow as they helped her grow.
- BRE’ANN NEWSOME is a mentee alum born and raised in the Bronx, New York. She is currently a freshman at Lehman College and member of Girls Write Now’s Poetry Collective. During her four years as mentee, she has participated in three seasons of Lincoln Center’s Poet-linc reading series, represented Girls Write Now at the United Nations for the 2014 celebration of the International Day of the Girl. She is published on Port Magazine’s website and included in seven anthologies,. Bre’Ann is the recipient of a Scholastic Art and Writing Award.
