Process
I was a junior when the pandemic first hit, it completely changed my life. Going into my senior year I realized that I was almost a completely different person, I truly understood that COVID had changed everyone’s lives in different ways. Yet there was still some unity in this extremely difficult time. I was so interested in how other teachers, high school students, and college students were dealing with the pandemic so I conducted a survey getting all of their perspectives. I then complied the answers into a podcast.
Obenewa Adu
Obenewa Adu is a 17-year-old senior in high school in Stamford, Connecticut. This is her second year as a Girls Write Now mentee. Obenewa is originally from New Haven, but has moved around, attending schools in Queens, Hamden, and Stamford. Obenewa’s favorite types of writing include poetry, journalism, and memoirs. She is passionate about writing and volunteer work. In the fall, Obenewa will continue her higher education at a four-year college with the hopes of one day inspiring change by breaking mental health stigmas around the world.
