Evolution of Nylah and Kathleen
By Nylah Harris
It’s hard to maintain a relationship for more than three months, let alone three years. Follow our journey and become inspired to start your own. It can be with your little cousin, your mom, or even a cactus!
Process
My mentor Kathleen and I made a video of our very first pair meeting where we interviewed each other, and we followed up on those questions three years later.

Mentee Nylah Harris & Mentor Kathleen Scheiner
Nylah’s Anecdote: My mentorship with Kathleen, in our own love language, is as easy as solving the case at the end of a Law & Order: SVU episode. Now, to most that might seem weird and not quite understandable, but when there’s a connection between two people, when are weird metaphors not a part of that? We build each other up creatively, offer a safe space, and, most important, support each other through the good and bad writing.
Kathleen’s Anecdote: When I first met Nylah in 2017, we bonded over our love of true crime and murder, and I found out that she wanted to study forensic science. We’ve written many pieces together full of blood and murder, poisonous plants, etc. Now, in 2020, Nylah has been accepted to Penn State, which has one of the best forensic science programs. And I expect to see Nylah soon as an expert witness on one of my favorite murder shows, like Forensic Files or Cold Justice.
