Hopeless Causes
By Amanda Castillo
Bordering the line between patient and friend, Dr. Olivia Bowen and Crystal Chavez discuss an incident that has affected one of Crystal’s relationships. The two work through ‘the incident,’ showing Dr. Bowen’s intentions are not what they seem.
Process
This process first started when I talked with my mentor Kate, brainstorming a couple of ideas before finally writing a script that I felt I could best put to use and film. For this film, I worked with some of my good friends at Emerson College where I’m studying film. We spent a couple of months doing casting calls and hosting auditions as well as finding a viable crew to help make this film come to life. In the end, we had a pretty small set, but we made do with what we had and I couldn’t be happier. With this film, I really just wanted to explore the nuances of different relationships with people and how lines can become blurred when different jobs are involved. Overall, I had a blast making this, and I can’t wait to do it again sometime in the future!
