Idol
Breaking News! A well-known member of the community, Gabriel, has been involved in a fatality. Reports say that he died by his own hand.
Anecdotal 1 Your presence was a melody That us mere mortals doted on Soaring above the skies Higher than we could hope to reach Your face and blessed name Held in the greatest glory Yet you never gained an ego Your pride, the size of a pea And you continued to fly with those stainless white wings Sacrificed doves upon your body Anecdotal 2 It was as if the feathers gravitated toward him and shaped themselves into wings The tip stuck out with prominence while the lower half tucked in If you ever saw him flying It was always his color that could be seen Because among the dismal gray clouds, his pearly white gleamed Gleaming in the sky, he was the image of hope Alone in this world with nowhere to go He ran to heaven’s gates and pled his sorrowful case To be blessed As he was Clean heart I seek Gabriel’s Truth We are all mere mortals, beings born to live in pain. We search for an unobtainable joy and run ourselves ragged, trying to be the exception. But in the end, there is only … Death is on my mind as I close my eyes and Dream of the doors I will be able to cross Without the weight of the world on my back Some would say they are my better half With the color of pearls Awe followed me close But their hopeful stares loitered How does a heart as weak as my own Hold up their hopeful expectations How do I soar to great heights Knowing little, innocent eyes, watch me Their votes of confidence have manifested into chains Each day they rust Under the glaring light Chains They tugged at me The scathing imprint on my back Chains Are what killed me Now my wings lay in a velvet box I watch them from the corner of my eyes as I lay on the other side, Withering away I was never fit to hold up God’s gift I should have stayed on the land Instead of running up to the skies I cried A thousand more tears by soaring
Process
This piece sprouted from the idea of mortality. Those in the limelight are often idolized, which creates immense pressure and isolation. Humans are inherently flawed and not meant to stand in a golden light. Therefore, this peace takes on that idea through the eyes of my original character, Gabriel.
