Sex in the City 2.0
By Angely Morel
Who wouldn’t want to see a modern version of Sex in the City in just a few slides? This collage is a visual representation of the things I have done as a young woman of color living in New York City. You can see not only the things I have achieved, the places I’ve traveled, and the clothes I wear while walking the streets of this cosmopolitan city, but you can also see the importance of my family and friends to me.
Process
To make my multimedia project, I started brainstorming what interesting things I would tell a stranger about myself and what I am most proud of. I gathered my ideas and went on the Canva app and made a simple introduction about myself. I collected pictures and videos about my interests, values, and accomplishments and found fun ways to put it all together. I was able to use my creativity with the many tools the app offers. I felt very proud of myself after completing my project because I had fun doing it and I learned a lot about myself throughout the process.
Meet the Pair
MENTEE ANGELY MOREL & MENTOR KATE JACOBS
Angely’s Anecdote: Kate has become more than a mentor; she is a lifelong friend. We both have so much in common, and loving ramen is definitely one of those things. We both also start a brief conversation that lasts thirty minutes because we love to update each other on everything! It has truly been a ride—a fun ride. Kate is confident, strong, and authentic. I have learned so much about her that has inspired me to be myself. It’s been more than just a digital and writing experience, but also a time of personal growth for the both of us.
Kate’s Anecdote: Angely is five feet tall and has a sweet voice and a warm smile. When I met her three years ago, I thought I would have to draw her out of her shell. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Angely sees the world with razor-sharp clarity. She stands up for herself, knows when teachers are unfair, and she experiences discrimination. She is determined to be successful and show the world the richness of Dominican culture. She is on her way to greatness, on her way to taking her very own place in history. I will never underestimate her again.
