Where Am I?
By Elisabeth Hynes
A poem that questions if where you’re from identifies who you are.
I am from told stories, and sage. I’m from Dunkin donut bags From late night fights and Friday night traditions From chili and pierogies Where I’m from is my mother’s necklace and Pop pop’s ring. Scoliosis bars turned coat rack Where I’m from is Jack’s lap And late-night snacks I’m from illegal fireworks Neighborhood hot boxers Faint smells of weed And hints of cinnamon and lavender And fresh flowers
