Your Weekly Dose with Mareesa and Abena
By Abena Wirekoh
In this podcast, I give you a taste of my love for South Korea and present two delicacies of South Korean culture in a fun and calm way!
Process
The process of creating this piece was truly wonderful and really fun. I enjoyed making this podcast, as it pushed me out of my comfort zone. Although having to do something I haven’t ever done before made me uncomfortable, it was really fun and entertaining.
Meet the Pair
MENTEE ABENA WIREKOH & MENTOR MAREESA NICOSIA
Abena’s Anecdote: During these past few months, meeting up with Mareesa has been one of the best highlights of my week. I feel extremely lucky to have Mareesa be a constant part of my life who I see every week. Our free write sessions are my personal favorite and some of my best works have been from flash-fiction pieces we have done together. I look forward to the weeks we have left of this year and cry in advance for the end of our time together.
Mareesa’s Anecdote: Witnessing Abena explore her voice and share her unique life experiences in her poetry, college essay, and other creative projects this year has been a wonderful privilege. She radiates quiet strength and tackles difficult subjects with courage and grace—producing beautifully compelling pieces in the process. Our weekly writing sessions followed by our meandering walking-to-the-subway chats reliably make me laugh and cry, and our time together has inspired me to renew my own creative writing practice.
