Virtual event; open to all mentees, all mentors, IVEdit committee
members, program alum, and the public
Counts towards monthly Community Studio requirement for mentees and mentors!
In this Committee Studio, we’ll discuss the voices and perspectives you’re seeing through Girls Write Now Stories and learn how to join the Intersectional Voices in Editorial (IVEdit) Committee. Then, we’ll dive into the special topic of the month: the accessibility of stories.
Art too often is the first thing that’s cut when budgets are tight. Stories, ideas, and perspectives are treated as a privilege, rather than a necessary part of life. As New York City’s libraries are forced to close their doors due to budget cuts, join us for a timely discussion about accessibility of stories for all.
“What the woman who labors wants is the right to live, not simply exist—the right to life as the rich woman has the right to life, and the sun and music and art. You have nothing that the humblest worker has not a right to have also. The worker must have bread, but she must have roses, too. Help, you women of privilege, give her the ballot to fight with.”
— Rose Schneiderman, 1912.
Are you interested in learning more about Girls Write Now Stories and our digital publication process? Intersectional Voices in Editorial (IVEdit) Committee assists with editorial, outreach, and publication of all Girls Write Now Stories, as well as envisioning how Girls Write Now can continue to be a leader in a new era of publishing. We, as editors, come from a myriad of backgrounds, we belong to many groups, and we have experienced many perspectives. We bring all of this to the work as we explore the stories created and celebrated in our community.
IVEdit will meet monthly during the 2023-2024 Girls Write Now Collaboratory. Mentors, mentees, alumni, and members of the public are welcome to attend our meetings and volunteer to help us edit our stories.
