Girls Write Now teamed up with Dotdash Meredith on an intergenerational workshop supporting mentees as their got their work contest-ready and out into the world.
EXPERIENCE THE PARTNERSHIP
Writing Works WORKSHOP
We launched our partnership with an intergenerational workshop: Dotdash Meredith employees—mentors for the day—helped Girls Write Now mentees ideate and draft essays, taking their work to the next level before college applications or submitting to the My Simple Realization Essay contest.
Following our workshop, mentees had the opportunity to submit to the My Simple Realization essay contest. A panel of Real Simple editors judged entries from Girls Write Now mentees, selecting winners based on originality, creativity, technical writing skills and relevance to the contest theme.
Chelsea Lin’s essay, Each Tremolo Reminds Me, won the Grand Prize and she went on to work directly with Real Simple’s editors to prepare the piece for publication.

Girls Write Now mentee alum Julia Mercado lands her dream job working as a Talent Coordinator at Hearst. Previously, Julia worked as a Summer Associate at Meredith’s Real Simple. Julia also participated in our #DifferentPerspectives campaign, writing about learning to take your time and finding your own path.
We celebrated 100 years of Better Homes & Gardens with Dotdash Meredith. Senior Community Marketing Coordinator Vahni Kurra and mentee alum Rashri Shamsundar spoke on a panel about the power of storytelling and how Dotdash Meredith employees could get involved.
