Culture Loss Prevention
By Giftbelle Lomotey
My podcast is about many things, hence the name. I talk about many topics, from problems with social media to the lack of success of afrobeats. I hope you enjoy it—you just never know what to expect with Gifty.
Process
Honestly, the idea for this project came about randomly. I weighed all of my options and this one stuck out to me. I used Anchor to edit and create the podcast episode. A challenge I experienced was learning how to use Anchor—I was introduced to the app but did not receive clear instructions on how to use it. In addition, it was challenging trying to make the audio sound natural even after I edited it. I encountered surprises while editing since I did not think it required the level of precision that it does. I felt relieved when completing the project.
Meet the Pair
MENTEE GIFTBELLE LOMOTEY & MENTOR JORDANA NARIN
Giftbelle’s Anecdote: There is a saying that goes, “Good things come in small packages.” I did not give much attention to the saying until I met my mentor. But I now think of it every time I see my mentor. Since the day we met, she has filled my life with light. Bad days are not so bad because I know that I will be in her presence. I have the great honor of calling her my mentor but the even greater honor of calling her my friend. Our spoken words may have helped build the first connection, but our connection grew deeper from the many words we have written in texts, in emails, and, most important, on paper.
Jordana’s Anecdote: I can’t help but feel like I’m boasting when I tell people that Gifty is my mentee. She’s a ray of sunshine, a standout soul, a once-in-a-generation fount of wisdom who makes me better for knowing her. In Gifty, I’ve gotten not just a little sister but a lifelong friend. I’m ever grateful to Girls Write Now for introducing us, and immensely excited to see where the next stage of life takes her.
