The Ketchup
By Jadah Jones
Ever forget everything you’ve done in one week? Or do you remember everything? Well, that’s Jadah and Nikki’s deal and now it’s their podcast! Listen to Jadah, who remembers nothing, and Nikki, who can’t forget anything, catch up about their week. Let’s ketchup together!
Process
My mentor Nikki and I enjoyed making our podcast, which we learned to do at a Girls Write Now monthly workshop. There, we created a trailer and decided to focus on how we spend our pair sessions: catching up. The twist? I never remember how I spend my week and Nikki keeps a meticulous calendar. We thought it would be a lot of fun to continue recording the podcast at our pair sessions and then immediately ran into the challenge of scheduling. But I learned that such a small, chatty thing can be very entertaining and a great way to capture our relationship.

MENTEE JADAH JONES & MENTOR NIKKI PALUMBO
Jadah’s Anecdote: Girls Write Now is a great program that I would recommend everyone to join. My mentor Nikki is just as amazing a person as she is a writer. She has made an impact on me in my senior year of high school, helping me set deadlines and manage my time better (something I’m not amazing at) as I prepare for college. Recently, Nikki texted me, “Hey, sometimes, instead of making excuses, you can just do the work,” and that has become my new mantra. Girls Write Now has made me better as a writer and a person.
Nikki’s Anecdote: You’ll know the second you read something written by Jadah. Her personality’s all over it. It’s effortless, raw, stream-of-consciousness, thoughtful, and impossible to predict. So our writing relationship has naturally followed that. Jadah lets the words fall out of her, and I stack them into an order that makes sense for the rest of us.
