Hereditary
By May Hathaway
This poem is a reflection on what being multiracial means to me and how it impacts the space I occupy in the world.
When I am particularly sad about not looking like anyone I know, I convince myself that the ocean belongs to me. I am most comfortable in the in-between, intersections, crossroads. My inheritance is not a continent. I separate land, force my doppelgänger to live in the unknown.
