My goal for the summer of 2022 was to ride a bike in Manhattan’s Midtown/Lower East Side. While writing other pieces, I was inspired to replenish a childhood dream I did not continue.
The Book of Extinct Creatures is a collection of mixed-media work for children. Through animals past and present, young readers will learn about important topics such as climate change and evolution.
No other animal seems more threatened by climate change than polar bears. Will these icons of the Arctic be able to adapt their diets to survive in their rapidly transforming environment?
My piece “journey while traveling” was inspired by my high school experiences and transformation into a young adult. This poem starts with me as a young teen and progresses into my exploration of adulthood.
Hi, I’m Alyssa. I’m excited to be able to present my work to you! I love nature, and I hope this piece is able to transport you all to the countryside with me.
Have you ever traveled the world through words alone? Exploring each place not as someone who wants great pictures or a story to show off, but someone who truly wants to feel the core of what it represents? I have—I’ve traveled and written about the emotions and the memories I haven’t really made. Using Google Maps, I wrote poems about select countries I’ve never been to, and used it as a way to travel the globe. Though difficult, using elements of each country, I’ve managed to paint a picture of how I view them and their importance to me.
