Cross-Pollination
By Nayeon Park & Tingting Wei
Cross-Pollination is a podcast featuring Mentor Tingting Wei and Mentee Nayeon Park, as they explore their respective identities as Chinese and Korean Americans and how those identities have shaped their childhoods in America.
Process
As immigrants from China and Korea, Tingting and I (Nayeon) have an authentic take on what it means to be Asian American. Naturally in our meetings, we found ourselves talking about the same topics we planned on recording for the podcast—ideas and concepts that both are extremely interesting to us and somewhat challenging to talk about. Podcasts are quite accessible and we wanted to reach other people who have similar identities as we hold and encourage them to share their story or even just think about it in a complex, beautiful way. It would also be nice to have people who were previously unexposed to such concepts to learn about our lives and maybe consume media and art that are related to them. We explored and recorded such ideas through Anchor, an app that provides an accessible form of recording podcasts through a phone.
